The Strokes - Last nite (2001)

In 2001, when these 5 sons of good families landed in leather jackets, slim jeans and Converse, guitar rock was finally back in the United States…grunge having been dead and buried for a long time and indie rock moribund.

Good families, I said, but with a great musical culture, among others Television, Velvet underground… just that!

Listening to “Is this it” their first album, is a bit like diving back into this very Arty rock of which the Americans have the secret. Ladle singles, careful production and assumed influences have made this record a centerpiece of the beginning of the 21st century .

Small detail and not the least, the album was released in England at the end of August 2001 while the release in the USA was delayed for two months because of the European cover representing a gloved leather hand resting on naked female buttocks. It doesn't take much to shock the country of Uncle Sam!
